Board Member

I am Fergenia H. Hood, a 1970 graduate of Rust College and a 1975 graduate of the University of Mississippi. I was employed as a public-school English teacher for 27 years and worked as parent engagement/transition director for 22 years at the Institute of Community Services, Inc. before retiring in 2019. I became an adjunct professor at Rust College in 2019.

Raised in a strict, Baptist household, I learned the value of giving to others at an early age. My parents instilled in me the importance of family, friends, church, and community. I have always been active in various clubs, organizations, community and church. Like my parents I am and have been very concerned with the issues of education and civil rights.

I have devoted many hours to spreading humanity in Holly Springs. I serve as a spiritual, educational and motivational speaker. I serve on the following religious, political, and cultural community organizations and boards: Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. (present Parliamentarian of ZUZ, former President of ZUZ for 12 years, and former State and Regional Officer), former Ida B. Wells Museum Board member and president, Marshall/Benton Counties Rust College Alumni Club (vice-president), Rust College International Alumni Association (secretary), Anderson Chapel C.M.E. Church Missionaries Society (vice-president), previous Holly Springs School District Board member (appointed again in June 2026), Holly Springs Democratic Executive Committee (president), Marshall County Democratic Election Committee (member), North East Mississippi Conference Empowering Us to Help Us Committee (chairperson), former Finch/Henry Job Corps Council (former secretary), Oxford/Holly Springs Missionary Society District (vice-president), Retired Education Personnel of Marshall County (member), and Relay for Life (co-event leader, team leader, and public relations).

I am married to Coach Terry Hood, and I have two children Gary and Paigelyn Hannah. My life would not be complete without my two grandchildren, Mason and Jakaiya.
